Dear  Parents,

Happy February!  I want to congratulate everyone on their hard work on the 100 day practice challenge. I can tell a huge difference in the lesson preparation. Being prepared makes it more fun for everyone as well as enabling us to move on to new things and advance quicker. Keep up the good work! I have a few reminders for February as well as a studio change.

Studio Change

I am really proud of the way everyone is making sacrifices to get violin time in daily. This is really making a difference! Part of what makes the Suzuki method different and so successful is the “Suzuki triangle”. This is a strong connection between a trained Suzuki teacher, a daily home teacher (the parent) and the student. When all three parts of the triangle are committed to the student’s progress as a musician and a developing human being (remember, the Suzuki method is as much about character development as it is musical proficiency) then this will be a wonderful foundation in your child’s life.  I know we all have busy lives but I am now asking the parents to be more involved in their child’s musical journey. I require parents to attend the lesson and be involved. I have observed that it is very distracting for everyone when cell phones are used for texting or calls during the lesson. Please do not have them on. In the event of an emergency the lesson will be stopped until the phone is put away. I am attaching a wonderful article about how to take notes at lessons. Taking detailed notes at the lesson is a huge asset to you and your children. I know even as a college student I audio recorded my lessons because I could not retain all the information given at the lesson. Please give them the gift of your attention and time. I also encourage you to make practice sessions at your home a chance to check in and bond with your child without distractions.  There will be times when it will be useful to audio or video record something done at the lesson. I will let you know about these times. Thank you.

Our February group lesson is Monday, February 24th. Book One is at 5pm and Book Two+ is at 5:45pm. It will be held at Summerhays.

Federation is coming up Saturday, March 22nd at Libby Gardner Hall. Many of us have discussed possible pieces. Please let me know if you are interested in this fun competition.  I need to have your piece and entrance fee ($13) plus you pay your pianist a small fee. I will be asking Shelly Astle or you are free to provide your own accompanist if you’d prefer.

No regular lessons February 25-28. We WILL have make-up Park City lessons Tuesday, February 25th at your regular time.
