January Newsletter

I hope you all had wonderful holidays with friends and family!  It is now time to get serious about practicing and dust off the cobwebs if you let them accumulate. We have a very fun and exciting semester ahead!  Regular lessons begin Monday, January 7th. Please remember to bring your January tuition this week. No private lessons January 28-31.

Our January group lesson is: Saturday, January 26th. 10:30am-11:30 Book 1, 11am-noon Book 2+ It will be held at SugarSpace, 616 Wilmington Avenue. We will be focusing on review, graduation prep, and a few advanced ensemble pieces that will be given to you at your lesson. Please keep in mind I have a rehearsal directly following group lessons. You are invited to drop your students off but if you are not back by noon your students will be unattended.

I encourage everyone to attend the benefit concert for Natalie Reed. It is Wednesday, January 9th, 7:30pm, at Libby Gardner Hall, University of Utah. Many of the top performers in Utah are gathering to support Natalie. Children able to sit quietly for two hours are invited to attend. I have already sent out a separate email with more details.

Many of you have expressed interest in attending events where I am performing. I want to let you know I am performing in a quartet for the opera, Dido and Aeneas, at Westminster College.  The performances are January 11th and 12th at 7:30pm. It is a great opera and only an hour and a half so it should be very accessible.

Graduation is Tuesday, February 12th at 7pm. It will be at Juan Diego High School in Draper. I am attaching information about graduation pieces and what to do if you are graduating. We will discuss at your lessons next week if you are at the proper level to graduate. Please keep in mind it is not expected you will graduate every year. Book One frequently takes a few years to complete. If you are not graduating you are still invited to attend the event to support your peers and see what is coming up.
