March Newsletter

We have lots of fun activities coming up this spring.  I highly encourage all my students to participate in Intermountain Suzuki String Institute this summer and all parents to attend the Suzuki Association of Utah Parents Conference in April. Here is a list of upcoming events, in chronological order.

·         First, our group lessons in March are Saturday, March 3rd at Summerhays. Book 1 group will be 10am-11am and Book 2+ will be 11am-Noon. Focus is TECHNIQUE.

·         Schedule change! April group lessons will now be Saturday, April 14th so that all parents can attend the Parent Convention. It is really important to me that you attend the convention so I have found an alternate location for our group lessons in April. We will be meeting Saturday, 14thbeginning group 10:45-11:45am and advanced&violas 11:45-12:45. We will be trying out a new space, the Sugar Space, located nearby in Sugarhouse at 616 East Wilmington Avenue. The May group will also be there Saturday, May 5th also at 10:45-11:45am and 11:45-12:45.

·         Schedule change! Another important change. Instead of no lessons the last week of March (26-31) there will be no lessons the first week of April (2-6) to better coordinate with local schools.

·         Saturday, April 21st is the Parent and Teachers Convention. This is my third year attending and it is always a wonderful day! There is so much to learn and every parent in my studio should attend. There will be a child psychologist talking about practicing, and classes about: music for the non-musical parent, how to relax, learning to speak your child’s love language and more. The charge to attend is only $5 and includes the most wonderful lunch! See the SAU website for more information.

·         The Spring studio solo recital is Friday, May 18th at 7pm at Day Murray Music (4914 South State Street). Please arrive at least 15 minutes early but be aware there is a recital directly before us – please enter cautiously and quietly to not disrupt the other performers.

·         Intermountain Suzuki String Institute. We are so fortunate to have this wonderful string camp in our area.  ISSI is one of the largest Suzuki camps in the nation and has excellent faculty and activities for everyone. Students that attend ISSI can expect a lot of fun, a lot of learning, and a lot of music! I encourage every student to attend this summer and am not teaching lessons this week.

·         Sign-up for Summer Lessons. June-August. Summer is a time to relax, explore and have fun! We have had such a great music year but let’s not stop learning. For the summer I will have a sign-up sheet so you can sign up for the days you want a lesson. This is more flexible than the school year. Although I do allow you to request lesson days, I require students to sign up for at least 9 summer lessons and know some of you may need to do more than one lesson the weeks you are here. Also, to reduce accounting/collecting hours, I am requiring the lessons to be signed up by May 1 and paid for IN FULL by June 1 (or you may post-date checks: July, August). Thank you.

·         Friendly Reminder. Thank you all for making this semester great. I know sometimes there are lessons scheduled on school holidays. The tuition covers 3 private lessons and 1 group lesson each month. For the spring semester (Jan-May) this means 15 private lessons, however, I have 17 private lessons for each student on the schedule. If you come to more than 15 lessons there is no extra charge, or you may use them as make-up lessons if you are ill/out of town. I appreciate you letting me know in advance if you will not be at your lesson. Thank you.

Happy Practicing!
