Dear Parents and Students,

Thank you all for your dedication to violin studies. I love hearing about your adventures with violin and am very thankful to go with you on your musical journey. Here are some events this month:

Do you love fiddling? Fiddle Fair with Aaron Ashton is Saturday, March 9th at 11am. It is a free clinic at Summerhays Music, 5420 South Green Street. I highly recommend all students mid-book 1 and above attend. Everyone who participated in the SAU Fiddle activity at Wheeler Farm two years ago remembers Aaron and how much fun he is!

I am going on tour with the Utah Symphony mid-March to bring concerts to communities that do not have an opportunity to hear a professional orchestra regularly. Thank you for understanding the importance of music education and recognizing the role live performance plays. I will have a sign-up sheet for lessons as I will have time to teach everyone but they probably will not be at your regular time. I would love to see everyone but will give a tuition discount if we cannot find a time to reschedule.

Federation will be Saturday, March 23rd at Libby Gardner Hall at the University of Utah. I have turned in all forms and will send out an email when I get the information about your performance hour. Parents are encouraged to sit with their student during federation (one hour long). Students please wear Sunday best. Our pianists are Shelley Astle (Book 2+) and Lindsay Ashton (Book 1). They are wonderful pianists (you probably saw Shelley playing at graduation) and are playing for over 50 students so it is to your advantage to contact them soon to arrange a rehearsal time. Their phone number is 801-487-3598. The rehearsal will be at their home, 2233 East Evergreen Avenue. Fee will be $20 total per student for the rehearsal and federation performance.

Group Lessons are Saturday, March 30th at SugarSpace. Please note the new times!  Book One class is 10:30-11:30am. We will be focusing on review, ensemble playing, and fiddle tunes. Book Two+ class is 11:30am-12:30. Please be prepared to play any piece you know from Suzuki book 1 and 2, and bring your ensemble pieces and folding stand.

Mark your calendars now! The SAU Parent Teacher Convention is Saturday, April 23rd.  This is one of the benefits of your SAU membership. Plan to attend a few classes or all day. Breakfast, lunch and 6 hours of classes is only $5 per parent. What a wonderful excuse to have a girls day out with fellow studio moms!

Looking for ideas to make practice more fun? Want to know how violin can improve your relationship with your child? Parents as Partners is a series of online videos by the nation’s best teachers and a few seasoned parents. The Suzuki Association of the Americas first started these instructional videos in 2011 and many parents in my studio subscribed. There are 50 new videos available online (to watch at your convenience) now- June 30 for only $9 if we get 5 or more parents interested.  I plan to sign up so please let me know this week if you are interested and I will register you at this studio discounted rate.
